I was the 6th of 7 of children. My parents were both educators. Like most people of my generation we enjoyed “clean living” by eating nutritional food made at home, creative outdoor play and plenty of sleep. I made every effort to raise my 3 daughters the same way. Traveling across the US and Europe as a child and an adult I learned about various societies views on health, fitness and aging.
I studied business at the University of Minnesota and the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul MN and spent most of my career with Fortune 500 companies. However, I always had a strong interest in health, fitness, anatomy, and the brain and I was pleased to sit on the International Health & Fitness Board of Directors for 6 years. My desire to stay healthy and active in my “vintage years” along with the joy in helping others, makes me passionate about healthy and enjoyable aging.
Although I studied Business in college and spent many years working for Fortune 500 companies, I always had a very strong interest in health & fitness, anatomy & the brain. While working in the corporate world I was fortunate to sit on the International Health & Fitness Group Board of directors for 6 years.
About 10 years ago I gradually transitioned to learning more and being more involved with the idea of healthy and happy aging. My own desire to stay healthy and active in my “wellderly” years along with the immense joy in helping others makes me passionate about staying playful and healthy as I age. I subscribe to “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” (George Bernard Shaw)
I learned from various sources like the Mayo Clinic Integrative Therapies and became certified in several specific programs. I am one of 2500 Certified Ageless Grace Educators worldwide and one of only 60 Certified Ageless Grace Trainers worldwide. I am a Certified Dementia Practitioner, a Laughter Yoga Trainer and Certified Aromatherapy Techniques Trainer.
I have been a Keynote Speaker for Activity Progressional Conferences and workshops, Nurses organizations, Parkinson’s Rehabilitation organizations, and Senior Centers. I offer regular classes in Retirement facilities as well as training others to do so. My classes are pertinent and fun for Corporate Lunch ‘N Learns as well. I have lead classes and workshops and and train (and/or certify) others in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois and am ready and willing to travel wherever I can help. All of my classes are eligible for CEUs from the Continuing Education Partners of Illinois.
I want to support as many people as I can with the knowledge, tools and confidence to age comfortably. “I cannot do all the good the world needs. But the world needs all the good that I can do.” (Jana Stanfield)
